about

POLAR was a Santa Rosa, CA based live electronics duo, formed by Barrett Clark (RIP) and Garrett La Fever in 1998. Their self-described “astral dub” was informed by ambient, IDM and industrial influences - while creating a vibrant sound world of their own. They independently released several CDRs between 1998-2003 , and played numerous live events in the Bay Area and beyond.

“How Many Grey Dots” was originally released in 2002 as a small edition of CDRs, and circulated amongst friends and collaborators. It was considered by many to be the quintessential rhythmic POLAR album - covering a terrain of fractured percussion structures, layered with liquid textures that seemed to ooze out of speakers.

15 years later, Katabatik is collaborating with surviving member Garrett La Fever to re-issue “How Many Grey Dots” - the first of several planned posthumous releases of Barrett Clark. Barrett was also a core member of Katabatik, who tragically died in the “Ghost Ship Fire” on December 2nd, 2016. This timeless album features newly commissioned artwork by Inga Markstrom, and a remaster by Garrett La Fever.
